On a prominent street corner in the city of Colton, California, members of Iglesia Impacto De Amor set up tables and unload boxes of food…
At Children’s Hunger Fund, we care about food because God cares about the hungry and those in need. From the very beginning, the Bible records God’s provision of food for Adam and Eve (Genesis 2), for Israel as they wandered through the wilderness (Exodus 16), and even for a discouraged prophet (1 Kings 17). The widow Ruth benefited from the farming laws that God established to help people in need (Leviticus 19:9, Ruth 2). Even the book of Proverbs reminds the reader that the wise person is generous in stewarding money and food (Proverbs 14:21; 19:17).
In the New Testament, Jesus also cared for children and the hungry. He healed sick children and welcomed kids who visited Him. His teaching illustrations frequently referenced banquets, reminding His listeners that a greater feast was to come for those who followed Him (Revelation 19). In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus clarified how His disciples should give to the needy.
And how many times did we see Jesus provide food? Immediately we think of Him feeding the 5,000 (John 6) and the 4,000 (Matthew 15), but He did so regularly. Jesus provided fish for the disciples on more than one occasion (Luke 5:1-7, John 21) and wine to the waning wedding feast in Cana (John 2). He sent His disciples into the town to acquire food (John 4), and when He raised the little girl from the dead, He instructed the parents to give her something to eat (Mark 5:43).
Food is a frequent reminder of God the Creator, and the regular lack of food negatively impacts hope. Why does Children’s Hunger Fund provide food for churches to give to hungry kids? Because we believe doing so allows God’s people to specifically point to Him as the ultimate provider of all true Life.
