Petru
Petru is thirteen and lives with his grandmother in a one-room apartment in Romania. When Petru was only three years old, a cement wall fell on him, fracturing his pelvis in several places and breaking his femur.
Seven years later, at a routine check-up, the doctor informed Petru and his grandmother that his leg had healed strangely as the result of a surgery that was supposed to fix his broken leg. Petru now has one leg that is longer than the other, making his pelvis uneven and causing back pain, among other complications. While Petru awaits another surgery to fix this, he was told to get special shoes to help with the complications.
Petru’s father sends money from Germany, but it is infrequent and barely enough to cover the medicine Petru needs, let alone food or expensive orthopedic shoes.
When a pastor from a local church arrives at Petru’s home with the gift of food and the message of the gospel, physical and spiritual needs can be met despite his desperate circumstances.
