Maia

Maia is eleven and lives with her family in a small, isolated trailer on a large plot of land near San Antonio, Texas. Their electricity is provided by a generator, and water must be trucked in regularly from another town.

Shortly after Maia’s family moved to this home, her father was in an accident and broke his leg and hip. Maia’s mother has her hands full raising four kids while also caring for her husband as he recovers. Maia helps her mother care for her younger siblings and father.

With Maia’s father unable to work, the family relies on food stamps to purchase food, but it isn’t enough to cover all their needs.
