Wendy Hicks reflects on her first international home visits with Children’s Hunger Fund in the Dominican Republic, where she is invited to turn off her “Communications brain” and simply experience the heart of the ministry in La Caballona. Walking with Francia, a volunteer from Iglesia Bíblica Casa de Gracia, Wendy watches gospel-centered mercy ministry in action as Food Paks are delivered and personal relationships—rooted in knowing names, stories, and needs—become the bridge for sharing the hope of the gospel with suffering children and their families. Almost a year later, she remembers how these faithful men and women, like Francia, are truly the heart of the ministry as they deliver hope to their communities through ongoing, relational care.
