Los Angeles Volunteer Update September 2026: From Corporate Connection to Volunteer of the Month

CHF: How did you first get connected with Children’s Hunger Fund?

Frances: Through Target. We had a volunteer event at CHF back in 2021, and I instantly fell in love.

CHF: What inspired you to start volunteering with CHF?

Frances: I am the volunteer captain for Target in the San Fernando Valley, and everything about CHF brings me joy.  I am inspired by the purpose of feeding the hungry.  I am grateful for the immersion cities that Poverty Encounter creates to bring the needs of others to life, and I love that it is inclusive.  Volunteering here is for all ages and different groups of people.

CHF: Is there a volunteer moment or experience that stands out as especially meaningful to you?

Frances: I am a single mom and have three kids.  There are so many things in our world that keep us “busy,” but I genuinely believe in the act of giving back.  When I volunteer with my children with me, I feel fulfilled and teach them in real time to be good people.  CHF allows for this space, and I am so grateful.  I have been taking my kids here since 2022, and every time, they leave saying the event brought them joy.

CHF: What keeps you coming back to serve?

Frances: My partnership with CHF and Seth makes coordinating frictionless and with ease.  I host events with so many people, and CHF has never turned me down.  Also, its purpose of feeding the hungry is so impactful.

CHF: Has volunteering shaped the way you think about hunger, poverty, or generosity?

Frances: Yes, volunteering allows me to feel like I am making an impact, even if it may be small.  But with a larger organization behind me, we can rally people to make a bigger impact, whether that is through working in your space or providing a grant to support your cause.

CHF: What’s one thing you appreciate about other volunteers or the staff you serve alongside?

Frances: Other volunteers and especially the staff are so kind and wholehearted.

We are so grateful for volunteers like Frances, who truly make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.

During a volunteer shift at the Los Angeles Volunteer Center, you’ve probably heard Seth or Evan say, “We can’t do this ministry without you.” That isn’t just encouragement. It’s the truth.

At Children’s Hunger Fund, volunteers aren’t simply helping the mission. You are an essential part of the ministry, helping bring hope to children, strengthen families, and equip churches around the world.

For more than three decades, CHF has remained one of the most efficient and transparent nonprofit organizations in the world. Since 1991, 96% of all revenue has gone directly to programs serving suffering children and families. CHF has been recognized with:

• Four-Star Organization status from Charity Navigator
• The Shining Light Award from MinistryWatch
• ECFA Accreditation from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability

Those recognitions reflect faithful stewardship, but they also reflect something else: a Volunteer Force that makes extraordinary ministry possible.

In 2025 alone, 26,206 volunteers contributed more than 52,000 hours of service across CHF’s three Volunteer Centers.

Here in Los Angeles, 14,489 volunteers gave nearly 29,000 hours of service.

Those aren’t just numbers.

They represent thousands of people who have chosen to become part of a community united around a shared mission: bringing help and hope to children and families in need through the local church.

Because of your service:

• 328 churches in 12 states are equipped, resourced, and encouraged to serve families in their communities through the Food Pak ministry. Together, these churches build meaningful relationships, meet practical needs, and share the hope of the Gospel.
• Nearly 1,000 churches in 33 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East are carrying out gospel-centered Food Pak ministry that responds to the unique needs of their communities.
• More than 2,500 churches in 21 states receive food, toys, books, diapers, hygiene items, vitamins, and other essential resources that help them demonstrate Christ’s love in tangible ways.

You are doing more than completing a task. You are helping churches reach families, helping children experience hope, and helping communities encounter the love of Christ.

The impact of your service extends far beyond the walls of this Volunteer Center. Together, we are strengthening local churches, caring for vulnerable families, and sharing the gospel across the nation and around the world.

When a family receives food, when a pastor is equipped to minister to a struggling neighborhood, or when a child experiences the love of Christ through a local church, you are part of that story.

This is not simply CHF’s mission. It is our mission. And we truly cannot do it without you.

During the first full week of each month, Food Paks provided by our generous donors and packed by our Volunteer Force are distributed to local Mercy Network churches. These church partners then deliver the Food Paks directly to families they have identified as in need of food—and, even more importantly, the hope of the gospel. RSVP HERE
