How Local Churches Are Delivering Hope to Children in Romania Through Gospel-Centered Mercy Ministry

Delivering hope in Romania means looking beyond Transylvania’s gothic castles and Nadia Comaneci’s gymnastics legacy to see children still suffering from the long shadow of communism and overcrowded orphanages. Through Children’s Hunger Fund’s Mercy Network, local churches in cities like Slatina are equipped for gospel-centered mercy ministry, offering tutoring, food, games, and caring relationships that draw children in and open doors for the gospel. Since 2015, this Mercy Center outreach has extended even to Ukrainian war refugees, as Romanian ministry workers drive hours to deliver food and share hope across the border.

Delivering Hope in Mexico: How Local Churches Serve Children in Poverty Through Gospel-Centered Mercy Ministry

Children’s Hunger Fund is delivering hope in Mexico by equipping local churches in Mexico City and beyond to serve suffering children through gospel-centered mercy ministry, even as nearly half of the country’s children live in poverty and many are forced to work instead of going to school. Through strategic relationships with local vendors, pastors and volunteers in the Mexico Mercy Network can purchase discounted food to reach families in low-income slums that often sit just a street away from luxury communities, bringing practical help and the hope of the gospel where crime, drugs, and economic inequality are part of daily life.

Unexpected Blessings during a Time of Great Need: How Emergency Food Relief Brought Hope to the Asiimwe Family in Rwanda

In Rwanda and across our international Mercy Network countries, we have witnessed unexpected blessings during a time of great need as churches remained closed and many families went hungry. In the midst of lockdowns, these monthly visits showed families who often went to bed hungry that they are loved, respected, and not forgotten.

Emergency Food Relief: A Timely Gift for Mercy Network Pastors Who Give So Much

At Children’s Hunger Fund, we see firsthand how pastors in our Mercy Network give so much of themselves while often struggling just as much as the communities they serve. When churches around the world closed during lockdowns, many pastors’ incomes simply disappeared, leaving them without the means to buy food or pay rent. By the grace of God, CHF was able to provide an emergency food relief grant to 663 international Mercy Network pastors and 26 Mercy Network Coordinators—a gift that, for many, was the first they had ever received. For Pastor Solomon of Fiche Addis Kidan Baptist Church in Ethiopia, this timely gift meant monthly food on the table and rent paid in the midst of soaring prices and widespread hardship. His words of praise to the Lord Jesus Christ remind us why we stand with pastors and church ministers in the very things they need most in this difficult time.

Through the Uganda Mercy Network and Children’s Hunger Fund’s long-standing partnership since 2002, Rosie moved from receiving Food Paks to owning a salon and now joyfully delivers food and job training to other vulnerable women, multiplying hope in one of Kampala’s hardest places. As we at Children’s Hunger Fund continue delivering hope to suffering children by equipping local churches for gospel-centered mercy ministry, stories like Rosie’s remind us why the Mercy Center, Food Pak ministry, and our partners in Uganda matter so deeply.
