Dallas Groundbreaking: Children’s Hunger Fund Launches Prosper, Texas Facility to Deliver Hope and Food Paks to Children in Need

The Dallas Groundbreaking for Children’s Hunger Fund in the Town of Prosper, TX became a powerful display of God’s provision as storms, flight delays, and a flooded field could not stop the event from moving forward. Despite wind, hail, and rain turning the future Dallas building site into a swamp, staff, volunteers, and guests joyfully gathered under a crowded tent to celebrate the launch of a facility that will deliver hope to suffering children through gospel-centered mercy ministry and Food Paks across North Texas, throughout the country, and around the world. From golden shovels plunging into red Texas dirt to guests packing the first Food Paks with canned goods, spaghetti, tuna, peanut butter, and snacks for kids, the Dallas Groundbreaking marked the beginning of a transformational work to bring food and the hope of the gospel to families in need.

Meet the Staff: Hal Williams

Hal Williams’ journey to Children’s Hunger Fund shows how the Lord was working in his life long before he ever imagined serving at a Christian non-profit like CHF. After years of resisting the gospel, God brought him to salvation and led him through church planting in Mexico, youth ministry in Hawaii, and ministry in California and Colorado before finally bringing him to a Relationship Development role at Children’s Hunger Fund, where he now helps local pastors and church volunteers deliver hope to suffering children through gospel-centered mercy ministry.

A Whole New Worldview

In “A Whole New Worldview,” the story of the Neri family unfolds at the end of a long dirt path outside San Antonio, Texas, where an isolated structure, a water container, and a generator provide for their most basic needs. After Hugo’s accident left him unable to work, Food Paks delivered by Jorge Ramirez and Bethesda Church of God offered practical help and opened the door for gospel-centered mercy ministry in a home once devoted to the Santa Muerte cult. As altars come down and the family grows more open to the gospel, Children’s Hunger Fund continues delivering hope to suffering children by equipping local churches for mercy ministry that can transform hearts, minds, and entire worldviews.

Fresh Produce, Unwavering Mission: How Children’s Hunger Fund Took a Fresh Take on Food Distribution During the Pandemic

At our Children’s Hunger Fund Distribution Center in Sylmar, CA, we recently experienced a fresh take on food distribution as rows of pallets were stacked high with boxes of bananas, honeydews, pineapples, and mangoes. While we typically send out non-perishable packaged foods and canned goods, the early months of the pandemic opened the door for us to provide fresh produce for local distribution through generous donations from Del Monte Foods—more than 1,151 pallets of fresh fruit in 2020 alone. Through our Distribution Centers in Los Angeles, Dallas, and San Antonio, pastors and church volunteers were able to deliver fruit, tortillas, onions, frozen waffles, and Food Paks directly to families in need, and even though many things changed about the way we delivered food, our mission to share the good news never wavered.

From Honduras to a Bigger Garage: How Children’s Hunger Fund Grew to Deliver Hope Worldwide

Our story, A Bigger Garage: The Story of Children’s Hunger Fund, began when God broke Dave Phillips’ heart for the poor in a run-down hospital in Honduras, where impoverished children facing terminal cancer were met with basic care and the love of Christ. From those early days of storing donated medicine and food in Dave and Lynn’s garage to becoming the largest food distribution warehouse still standing after the Northridge Earthquake, God has continually expanded our capacity to deliver hope to suffering children by equipping local churches for gospel-centered mercy ministry. Today, what started as one couple’s desire to alleviate the suffering of children and encourage the church to serve the poor has grown into partnerships with churches in 29 countries, thousands of volunteers, and what feels, in Dave’s words, like God “just keeps giving us a bigger garage.”
