Volunteer of the Month
Helen Leverton

This month, we are delighted to honor Helen Leverton, a faithful Volunteer Specialist who has been serving with CHF for the past 13 years. Week after week, she writes thank-you notes to our generous donors. Her diligence and servant-hearted dedication have made such a difference in CHF’s ministry, as she has personally written thousands of thank-you cards over the years.
Helen first connected with CHF through Shepherd Church and became a Volunteer Specialist in 2013. Volunteer Specialists are dedicated volunteers who serve regularly for an extended period, providing ongoing support to a specific area of the organization.
One of Helen’s favorite parts of serving is hearing ministry updates and knowing, “how we are impacting so many families that are in need of food and how we share the gospel.” She is especially encouraged and inspired by watching videos that highlight CHF’s ministry and the lives it transforms. You can visit Children’s Hunger Fund’s YouTube channel here.
Helen finds her role as a Volunteer Specialist meaningful not only because of the impact she makes, but also because of the relationships she has built along the way. She shared that her time with the team lead and fellow Volunteer Specialists is “encouraging and enjoyable in how we work together.”
Helen also reflected, “I feel very blessed that I have never had to go a day without food, which is why I am grateful to be a part of CHF providing for others in need.”
Thank you, Helen, for your many years of faithful service and for the encouragement you bring to everyone around you. We are grateful for you!

This Summer: Kids are Making an Impact!
Every summer, thousands of churches host Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs to engage children in their churches and surrounding communities. VBS is a fun and meaningful summer program where kids learn about God while participating in activities such as games, crafts, music, and more.
Children’s Hunger Fund partners with Answers in Genesis (AiG) to provide a Mission Moment as part of AiG’s hugely popular VBS curriculum. Through this program, children have the opportunity to fill Coin Paks, where every 25 cents can provide a meal for a child in need.
We are continually humbled and downright impressed at how participating children find ways to earn the quarters with which they fill their Coin Paks. Lemonade stands, car washes, mowing lawns, all to provide meals to kids in need.
Since the beginning of CHF’s partnership with AiG, children participating in VBS programs have helped provide more than 20 million meals to children facing hunger around the world. By filling Coin Paks and learning about God’s heart for those in need, these kids are using their summer breaks to make a lasting difference!
Looking for Ways to Get Your Kids Involved This Summer?
- Sign up to volunteer! Kids can earn service hours while making a meaningful impact in their community.
- Pick up a Coin Pak from the Poverty Encounter lobby. Children can fill their Coin Paks by earning coins through chores, hosting a bake sale, collecting recyclables, and other creative fundraising activities.
- Bring a group of friends to experience Poverty Encounter this summer, gain a deeper understanding of the realities of extreme poverty, and take part in a hands-on service opportunity that makes a difference.
Together, we can empower the next generation to serve others and share God’s love in practical ways.

Join us for our first Monthly Distribution Prayer Force meeting!
Wednesday, September 2nd, 8-8:30 a.m
At Children’s Hunger Fund, prayer is more than a tradition—it is a foundation of everything we do. We invite you to join us for our first-ever Monthly Distribution Prayer Force meeting, a dedicated time to pray for our Mercy Network churches and the families they serve through the Food Pak ministry. RSVP HERE
During the first full week of every month, Food Paks provided by our generous donors and packed by our Volunteer Force are distributed to local Mercy Network churches. These church partners then deliver the Food Paks directly to families they have identified as being in need of food—and, even more importantly, the hope of the gospel. RSVP HERE
As we gather, we will pray for:
- Mercy Network pastors and volunteers serving faithfully in their communities
- Children and families who will receive Food Paks
- Open doors for gospel conversations
- God’s continued blessing on this ministry and all those involved
Our prayer circle will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. and conclude by 8:30 a.m. RSVP HERE
Afterward, you’re welcome to:
- Meet Mercy Network pastors and volunteers
- Assist with Food Pak distribution efforts
- Stay and serve alongside the Volunteer Force beginning at 9:00 a.m.
- Or simply head to work or your other responsibilities
Coffee will be served before the prayer circle.
Light breakfast refreshments will be available afterward.
