Twenty years of serving at Children’s Hunger Fund has marked the Harper family’s journey with countless memories of packing Food Paks, sorting Costco donations, and wrapping Christmas presents to help deliver hope to children in need. From volunteering at the old warehouse with their homeschool group to sharing about CHF in Kristen’s Christian fiction novel and inviting friends to experience Poverty Encounter, the Harper family continues to serve the Lord and send the gospel message of hope with every Food Pak.
Volunteers of the Month
The Goddard Family
For the Goddard Family, delivering hope is a family affair. The Goddards have been visiting our Los Angeles Distribution Center for nearly five years, and we are grateful for their dedication and joyful service.

When did you start volunteering with CHF?
- We started volunteering in the fall of 2021.
What do you like best about volunteering with CHF?
- When you come to a volunteer session at CHF, you and the group of people you are with are immediately put to work. It feels amazing to complete meaningful tasks that are helping impact people’s lives in a positive way.
What’s your favorite project to do at CHF?
- Our favorite family project is making the lentil soup packets (Meal Pak). Our family of four gets to create a little mini assembly line to get the ingredients in and packets sealed and ready for distribution!

Project Spotlight: Gift Paks!

Children’s Hunger Fund receives many millions of dollars’ worth of donated products every year. In addition to food, these items can include clothing, cleaning supplies, kitchen accessories, personal hygiene items, and even toys. While the non-food items we receive will not find their way into a Food Pak, they are still immensely useful to the children and families we serve.
Hence—the Gift Pak! Like a Food Pak, the Gift Pak eases a small portion of a struggling family’s daily financial strain, allowing them to spend money on other essentials or important needs. In other words, they don’t have to choose between taking their daughter to the doctor and buying her a winter coat.
To make Gift Paks, our Volunteer Force sorts the wide variety of useful necessities donated by our corporate partners and assembles them into packages that are a great blessing to the families our churches serve. While CHF’s core ministry tool will always be the Food Pak, we are thrilled with the opportunity to express God’s care for the poor by equipping our Mercy Network Churches with the relational tool of Gift Paks.
We hope to see you soon to help us assemble some Gift Paks. We CANNOT do it without you!
