For students considering how their education can prepare them to serve others, choosing a field of study is only part of the journey. A new scholarship from The Master’s University and Children’s Hunger Fund will support students who are already demonstrating a commitment to mercy ministry and want to carry that commitment into their future vocation.
This new scholarship is available to incoming freshmen at The Master’s University. Five scholarships will be awarded annually, each providing $5,000 per year and may be renewed for up to four years, provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship expectations. Applications open October 1, 2026.
The Purpose of the Scholarship
The scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate a commitment to gospel-centered mercy ministry through previous involvement and a clear vision for using their academic field to serve others in the future.
Gospel-centered mercy ministry is the church’s obedient response to the needs of suffering people, offering gospel hope through Christ-like service, evangelism, and discipleship.
That calling can shape many different careers, which is why the scholarship is open to students pursuing a variety of academic paths.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be applying to The Master’s University for the first time
- Be admitted as a traditional, on-campus undergraduate student
- Be pursuing a BA or BS degree
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
Beyond these eligibility requirements, preference will be given to students who demonstrate consistent involvement in mercy ministry, a strong connection to the local church, and a clear vision for connecting their education with future service.
What Will Applicants Submit?
A brief resume highlighting relevant experiences from the previous three years, which may include:
- Service or volunteer involvement, especially through the local church
- Ministry or leadership experience
- Coursework, reading, or personal development related to mercy ministry
A mercy ministry vision explaining how the applicant hopes to use their field of study and future vocation to participate in mercy ministry.
Students are invited to consider how their chosen field of study could prepare them to serve others.
What Is Expected of Scholarship Recipients?
Recipients will be expected to:
- Attend one volunteer shift at CHF during the fall semester.
- Attend a Poverty Encounter tour during the fall semester.
- Attend one volunteer shift at CHF during the spring semester and bring 2-3 additional people.
- Attend one Poverty Encounter tour during the spring semester and bring 2-3 additional people.
- Reapply annually to maintain eligibility
- Remain in good academic standing
