Thousands are affected. You can help.

Our partner in Guatemala, Roca de Ayuda, has been able to connect with churches in Alotenango, which have opened their doors to serve families who were unable to access government shelters. Food and other supplies have been delivered to families in these temporary shelters close to “ground zero.” Some of these churches are also serving as funeral homes, and the Lord is providing opportunities for pastors and church members to share the hope of the gospel with those who are hurting.
With your help, we will continue to provide food and aid, including cots for people who will be living in shelters long-term.
A pastor from our Guatemala Mercy Network wrote:
“Brother Mario, please pray for Roca and the church volunteers. As we visited the shelters doing our distribution of donations, the volcano began to erupt again and the skies darkened. By God’s grace we are ok, but it gave us an idea of what our people went through in this tragedy.”Please continue to pray for our partners and churches in Guatemala.

On June 3, 2018, Volcan de Fuego erupted in San Miguel Los Lotes, Guatemala. The volcanic eruption is the largest in Guatemala in more than a century.
While initial reports list the death toll at close to 70, hot volcanic ash and lava flow have made it nearly impossible to reach some areas, making rescue efforts difficult, and officials fear that many people were buried. The death toll is likely to rise. Thousands have been evacuated and residents have been warned that more explosions may occur. As many as 1.7 million people have been displaced from their homes.
As casualties rise and those affected seek help, many have lost their loved ones, their homes, and are desperate for help. Children’s Hunger Fund partners in Guatemala, Roca de Ayuda and the 26 churches of our Mercy Network, are planning to provide first-response support to those affected by the volcano, while also planning to respond to the ongoing needs after first responders leave the scene.
Currently, the greatest needs are for food, water, hygiene items, blankets, diapers, disposable medical equipment, and clean-up equipment. With your help, we hope to provide our partners with the ability to offer these necessities to victims in the most affected areas.
We hope that, through the support of our ministry partners, Children’s Hunger Fund can respond to this disaster by lifting the people of Guatemala up, showing them the love of Christ, and helping this broken country to rebuild. Join us in praying for God’s mercy on his people in Guatemala.
Children’s Hunger Fund is currently accepting financial donations designated specifically for “Guatemala Disaster Relief.”
Designated gifts for Guatemala disaster relief which exceed expenses required for the response will be used in CHF’s ongoing programs to serve suffering children in Guatemala and around the world.
