Eva finds great joy in serving others. Whether it’s teaching, sharing food, or offering a warm welcome, she loves to reach out to those in need through the ministry of her church, Living Faith Christian Center in Compton, CA.
Her joy is just part of her greater gratitude to God. Not too long ago, Eva was one of the many faces in the line, hoping to just get some food.
Eva lost her job a little over two years ago. She couldn’t provide for herself and her family and felt overwhelmed with financial problems. Living in Compton, she was already too familiar with neighbors struggling financially; 26% of the population lives below the poverty line, according to the U.S. Census.
When she seemed to have no more options, a neighbor asked her to come with her to a food pantry at a local church. She decided to go and see what she could get for her family.
When she arrived at Living Faith Christian Center, she received far more than food. She listened to Pastor Mardin teach from the Bible. Afterwards, she felt so moved that she had to come back. She started attending the Wednesday night meetings at the church.
After attending church for over a year, she put her faith in Jesus and got baptized. She then decided to serve as an usher. She has also started assisting as a teacher in the children’s program.
Last week, Eva wrote to express her gratitude to Children’s Hunger Fund for the food that makes their ministry to the poor in Compton possible. Eva also shared that her life has changed so much that she could not express it all in writing. She feels such joy inside when serving others and the Lord.
Thank you, Eva, for writing to thank us. We are so encouraged to read about God’s sovereign grace in your life and your joyful response.
We’re excited to hear that hungry children and families in Compton are finding hope because of faithful servants like Eva, Pastor Mardin, and all those coming alongside the poor and hopeless at Living Faith Christian Center.
